Week In Review

What a terrific week! We were able to accomplish several HUGE feats this week.

First and foremost, we finished work on our FIRST project! The class was divided fairly evenly on work in interviews, timelines, and digital scrapbooks (via PowerPoint). We will present these projects next Tuesday and Wednesday! I hope to at least take pictures (possible make videos using our Flip Camera) of our project presentations, and upload them for parents to enjoy. Stay on the lookout!

We also finished our first Junie B. Jones book! We will continue to read several series books throughout the year, including The Magic Tree House series. Remembering, predicting, and analyzing text is the focus of reading these books. They really establish a life-long love for reading, in addition to helping the students comprehend text and allowing the teacher to model oral reading fluency. The students enjoy this time (and usually ask for extra read-aloud time!).

We are moving right along in our word family study. We have already learned/reviewed the short a, e, i, and o sounds. Students are doing a great job learning words and applying them in reading/writing! I have several students a day point out a word that belongs in one of our learned word families. Keep discussing these words at home - you have no idea how much this will help your child recognize these sounds and word families later.

We are beginning to really dive into addition with several new math games this week. "Five In a Row" helped us learn to recognize patterns and add quickly. "Roll and Record" taught us to record number patterns. There are many opportunities for simple addition/subtraction around the home...take advantage of them! :)

Parents - thanks for ALL you do at home! I can really tell students are engaged in meaningful review time at home nightly. Your work with the children at home is so important...thanks for your support!
